LEMMING HOUSE
Established in 1981 by architect Yoshifumi Nakamura, this design firm focuses on residential design, but also designs accommodations, restaurants, museums, kindergartens, and other buildings of all types and uses. Since the firm’s inception, the firm has also designed a wide range of fields such as furniture, lighting fixtures, tableware, and kitchen accessories.
The “lemming” in “LEMMING HOUSE” is a mouse in English which lives in Northern Europe. The mouse migrates widely and is translated into Japanese as “TABINEZUMI（traveling mouse）”. Nakamura was born in the year of the rat (in Oriental Zodiac) and also loves to travel. So our firm was named “LEMMING HOUSE”.
We put much value on the belief and attitude to be the architects like tailors who make the “everyday clothes” of ordinary people, and we work for creating the comfortable architecture that is in tune with people’s homes and lives.

Yoshifumi Nakamura
Born in Chiba, Japan in 1948. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Architecture in 1972. After working at an architectural firm, he studied furniture making at the woodworking department of Tokyo Metropolitan Shinagawa Vocational Training School. Founded Lemming House in 1981. Professor of the Department of Architecture, College of Industrial Technology, Nihon University from 1999 to 2018, visiting professor of the Department of Environmental Design, Tama Art University from 2014.
