A training and accommodation facility embraced by the natural landscape of Fukue Island. A former reinforced concrete elementary school was revitalized by cladding its exterior in traditional Japanese bevel siding and adding long horizontal windows.
The meeting room is equipped with a fully functional kitchen, allowing trainees to prepare their own meals.
The serving counter can accommodate tableware for up to 20 people and includes a built-in wine cellar.
The single rooms are designed to resemble monastic cells. Each room is 2260mm wide, mirroring the dimensions of the cells in Le Corbusier’s Convent of La Tourette. The rooms feature vaulted ceilings.
There is one twin room that includes a private bathroom and toilet unit.
The original nameplate on the gatepost of the former elementary school was left intact and legible, while a new transparent glass nameplate reading “Meguri Megurasu” was added.
